What is a boost spike?

A boost spike is a sudden and unexpected overshoot of the requested/designated boost pressure. This can be caused by various circumstances including programming, boost leaks, hardware malfunctions and more. For example, if the requested PSI is 14.7 at a certain RPM but the boost pressure hits 21 PSI before tapering down to 14.7 PSI, you have experienced a boost spike.
